If you read my product review of KINKY CURLY, you already know that I am a fan of that. I’ve tried a few of the other products, but I was not too excited about the results I got from those. I think some of these work better for loose curls.

Have you tried any of the products on the list? What did you think?

  1. I also did not like the Curly Custard at first. It only took me a couple times to get it right though. After washing and using the Knot today – 1.I spray a little of the Shea Moisturizing Mist. 2.I always have to use “glycerin” in my hair so I also spray a mix with water on my hair each night. 3.Then comes the Kinky Curly Custard a little goes a long way. and most important! I don’t just leave my hair to do magic shrinking trick! I do a two strand twist while my hair is still very wet and let it air dry. There you have it nice klumpy curls instead of the dreaded jheri curl. 3c hair

  2. I have tried the KCCC it was not for me. Gave it several attempts. I have also tried the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Did they define the curls? Yes they did, but the KCCC took FORever to dry and left my hair feelin & lookin very weird. The Smoothie did define, but the curls did not last but i will use it again. Most products will define my curl, whats important to me is for how long. My Curl defining leave ins of choice are:

#1 Giovanni Direct Leave In ~ Its economical, It defines, its organic and the curls last
#2 Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp ~ Its economical, Smells fantastic, organic, defines and if you use it with the Giovanni its nirvana. In fact i use a little no matter what other leave in I am using.
#3 EO Lavender & Aloe Condish ~ This is not a leave in, but i use it as a leave in. Its economical, smells great, curls last.
All 3 of these leave the hair soft to the touch after its dry.
Excellent post! thanks for putting it up. I like seeing what other people use.

  3. I love KCCC and it’s the only one on the list that I’ve tried and used. That being said, Ecostyler Klear is mainly what I use these days.

    • I am in absolute love love love with KCCC…the first time I tried it I hated it and it took way too much time but NOW its my STAPLE I have 2c -3a hair and it locks my curl into place with shine and perfect difinition. I’ve also found that it also works well with only one other leave in ” Treseme Naturals” I love it…

  4. No.s 2,5,& 10 I’ve tried, and absolutely love them. With anything that gives a hard hold, it’s going to shrink the crap out of your hair causing ‘Ye olde Jheri Curl look’ lol. What I’ve been doing is adding first to wet hair and I mean soaking, drenching wet hair – Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Conditioner – a 3 finger full and finger comb it through then when it’s all over the hair I rewet again and apply the curly stuff (either one described in the beginning of my blog) and finger comb it through. Afterwards I do my perverbial ‘shake dance’ where I profusely shake my head back and forth, frontwards and backwards (to loosen the coilies of course-this is what elongates my curl so it doesn’t look like a Jheri Curl) then I let it air dry. Don’t like walking around your house with drips? take an old t-shirt and act as if you’re putting it on and flip it over the hair and pat, pat, pat, pat, pat dry.

Hope this helps you curly girlies!

  5. I tried the curly meringue…FAIL. It smelled too strong, and it made my hair look dull.

I liked the curl keeper. I have a mix of 4a and 3c curls. That worked pretty well, and even better on my 3c curls.

  6. I tried KCCC and it was not a winner for me. I tried it about 3 other times.. once with too little, too much, the perfect amount – But you are right, it is all about hair pattern. For some reason KCCC wants my hair pattern to be Jheri Curl ; )

  7. John Frieda Dream Curls spray is amazing as well! It’s only $5 at Walgreens. Spray it on wet hair and blow dry or air dry. It makes my curls into perfect spirals! At that price, it’s worth a try ladies!

  8. Yes, I’ve tried miss jessies quick curls…it’s nice , but not much hold..and it doesn’t leave your hair hard feeling (which is a plus)

My staple and favorite gel is Uncle Funkys Daughter “Curly Magic” …love this stuff!

    Thanks for asking, take care.
