Tips for Making Body Scrubs At Home
If you are looking for a less expensive alternative to body scrub, try making your own at home. Here are a few tips to get you started:
Choose your exfoliant:
- Sugar (gentler than salt scrubs)
- Sea salt
- Oatmeal
You can also add additional exfoliants such as:
- Finely ground coffee
- Almonds
- Edible seeds
Choose your oils(s):
- Apricot kernel
- Jojoba
- Coconut
- Olive oil
- Other oil of your choice
Choose your fragrance:
- Essentials oils are an excellent option (Remember that you will only need a few drops. EOs are much stronger than Fragrance oils)
- Sometimes I add a little castile soap which adds to the texture and provides fragrance
- For a relaxing scrub-Lavender is a great addition
- For an invigorating scrub- Citrus, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint are great additions
How to Mix:
- Add your dry ingredients to a clean dry container
- Add oil a little at a time until you get your desired texture
- Add fragrance a small amount at a time
- Mix thoroughly
Body scrubs are fun to make, and you can come up with a ton of different recipes. They also make great gifts. If you are making larger batches, look into natural preservatives and make sure you are storing in a cool dry place.

Thanks, I have made herbal salves that came out splendid; I will make this scrub now and share it with others as well. Love stuff like this!
i’m excited and ready to try this out
This is good to know. I actually just made my first body salt scrub that past weekend. I have used it once already. I love it.
I actually like my homemade ones bette than ones I’ve puchased.
This is great! I have been thinking of making my own body scrub so I will use this as a guide. Would this same guide be a good resource for a facial scrub?
You’d want to use brown sugar or oatmeal (or something less abrasive) for facial scrubs.
