Hot! Product Review: Shea Moisture Curling Souffle

a.s.k. for beauty writes:

Literature on product: Our all-natural Coconut Styling Soufflé with Agave Nectar & Flax Seed Oil defines and promotes curls, with a soft, smooth after-feel.  Coconut and Flax Seed Oils nourish and hydrate hair, seal the hair shaft to protect against external pollutants and assist natural oil retention. Our original natural humectants complex of Agave Nectar, Coconut oil, Glycerin, and Shea Butter moisturizes conditions and boosts shine without frizz. This product does not contain silicones, polymers or PVP which could cause build-up and damage hair over time.

Ingredients: Aqueous Infusion Teqilana Leaf Extract and Sugar Cane Extract, Pectin, Vegetable Glycerin, Adansonia Digitata Pulp (Baobab) Extract, Cocos nucifera (coconut) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B-5), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E-Vegetable Oil source), Linum Usitatatissimum (Linseed/Flax) Seed Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Proprietary Essential Oil Blend

What I liked about the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle :

– For 12 oz of product at $9.99 this is a good buy, especially with this product being made of natural and organic ingredients.

– The product can be used on wet, damp, and dry hair depending on the desired style.

– The product has the consistency of a gel, and texture of pomade

– It comes in a jar, which makes application easier

-It gave my hair enough hold and swell-ability to my twist out, without waiting days for it to get old

-It has a natural sweet tropical fragrance that is not overpowering

What I dislike about Shea Moisture’s Curling Soufflé:

– The product is sticky due to the agave nectar and sugar cane extracts

– It left my hair feeling wet and greasy for an extended period of time even after it was dry

Overall, I would not buy the product again, I find me that the Shea Moisture’s Curling Smoothie works best for my hair. Please DO NOT allow my experience to deter you from trying out the product. What doesn’t  work for me may work for you vice versa. You can find Shea Moisture at select Target’s, Walgreen’s, and Duane Reede’s, as well as online.

  1. I find that different products work best for my different lengths. I started with the C&S Milk (short cut: 1/2 inch), but as my hair grew, I felt that I needed something more. I switched to the Smoothie, but found that the build up was too much for me. I tried the Souffle & to my surprise, I love it!!

I was concerned about the ‘sticky feel’ of the product and thought it would dry up and leave my hair flakey. I was wrong. My hair is not only moisturized with a nice gloss, but there are no flakes & no overly sticky residue. Keep in mind, I only use a little of this product for double-strand twisting and there is NO NEED to apply every day. I will continue with the Souffle and Curl Shampoo for my hair regimen.

  2. So far, this is a very good product for my kinky, 4b hair. I get defined, moisturized and shiny twists. Do not use for wash & gos. A little is all you need after you apply on wet hair and then twist. To refresh, a little on hair and then retwist. Do not get the same results with the smoothie.

so.. since you didn’t like it. would you say you’d product swap and send some of it to me. So I don’t have to go buy it and not like it

  4. Comments from FB:

K.M.- I have the same feelings…smells great, but didn’t really care for the after affects of the product. IF anyone wants to try/trade it I have a jar that’s 90% full

R.E.L-J.- Its $10…comparable to kinky curly custard….I like this product better. Doesn’t leave my hair nearly as sticky as the custard did. I use it sparingly with the smoothi from shea moisture… twistouts are great!

L.D-S.- Don’t like the feeling and didn’t give me what i was looking for: (

S.E.- I LOVE this product! I wet my hair with water/olive oil mixture, then mix the souffle with the smoothie and curling milk…Voila! Defined curls AND moisture for at least 4 days….no rewetting, no reapplying product and not even a satin scarf at night. I just finger fluff in the mornings and go. My curls are are still defined, still moisturized! Love, love, love Shea Moisture’s Thick & Curly line! :-) oh and I forgot to say that I combed it through using a wide tooth comb….

T.W-J.- I just purchased it… i love shea moisture but this product is a fail! I don’t like the way it makes my hair feel and it doesn’t define curls at all.. i really don’t know what is the purpose of this product.. it needs work #justsaying

M.R.- It was okay but it didn’t wow me.

    T.M.- I am finding that their products are 9.99 for a reason…

M.D.- I have their Curl & Style Milk! I LOVE it! It keeps my hair from getting dry.

L.M.- I just purchase this and the curl mlk and it work wonderully for my hair! No complaints at all :-)
